Lung (V/Q) Scintigraphy
Procedure description:
Lung scintigraphy is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses ventilation scintigraphy, perfusion scintigraphy, or both to evaluate cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders. Aerosol ventilation scintigraphy is a diagnostic imaging test that records the bronchopulmonary distribution of an inhaled radioactive aerosol within the lungs. Gas ventilation scintigraphy is a diagnostic imaging test that records the pulmonary distribution of radioactive gas during breathing. Pulmonary perfusion scintigraphy is a diagnostic imaging test that records the distribution of pulmonary arterial blood flow. Radiographic pulmonary evaluation is a chest radiograph or CT scan used to evaluate the pulmonary parenchyma.
Key patient preparation:
No specific preparation is required. If a recent chest x-ray exists, please provide it to us, to compliment the clinical history in the referral letter, as well as D-dimer results.
